NACRTI / SKETCHES

To be moved by some thing, rather than by oneself.

Yvonne Rainer

Nacrti / Sketches questions the status and relation of things and bodies at work, display and in performance.

Reimagining relations between productive and non-productive labour, movement and composition, Sketches operate as a choreography-in-the-making that is never completed, but keeps reconfiguring, reorganising and reinventing its principles and procedures of unfolding in time, in relation to the space holding its edges.

In the world of Sketches, things are becoming sculptural compositions (always from a cheap, found, waste-like material) and working bodies becoming dance (always from the middle, fragmented and partial realisation of many potential dances).

Viewers are given an opportunity to situate themselves in the midst of other horizontal relations of things and bodies, sculptures and dances, lights and shadows and/or move between immediate doings / events and their past – present – future sketches / traces / remains.

Critic’s  word:

Within the performance, a viewer is encouraged to reassess actions and relations; questioning the means and aspects of translation between bodies and things, that give shape not only to one’s dance but also to conditions for one’s actualisation; and beyond the performance situation, to consider a correspondence between an artwork as an actualization of material labour and an act of rearrangement and social repositioning. If the performance was only a sketch of potential, the task of its actualisation is redirected on the viewers.

Sketches is the most thought out piece yet created by the young dancers and authors, who graduated from the Dance department at the Academy of Dramatic Arts.
