HERBARIJ / HERBARIUM

Herbarium is a dance performance developed in collaboration with artist and dramaturge Nina Gojić, supported by the artistic research and collaborative speculation around ideas such as degrowth, reciprocal topographies (André Lepecki) and slow violence (Rob Nixon) among others.

Questioning the regimes of visibility as well as production, systematisation and transfer of knowledge, Herbarium is situated in a time between an environmental or other type of disaster and/or catastrophe, and articulates the curiosity towards a type of parasitism which inhabits a ruined place, and awaits, enabling the modes of deficiency, slowdown and non-productivity. It imagines what it might look like if a snail fell asleep and dreamt it was a mushroom.

Herbarium employs the gaze that looks around itself, rather than progressively forward, and stays with the trouble (Donna J. Haraway) by yielding into and pairing-with other (human and non-human) entities in its immediate environment. In Herbarium, what is collected, pressed and preserved are not singular, defined forms of movement and/or life, but their relational logics, functions and rhythms that translate through and interconnect to sustain diversity within the choreographic system.
