Dolce far niente is a new durational performance by mold kolektiv for the gallery.
Unlike their previous works, it undoes their own strategies of making and redirects their interest from in-formed dance materials and/or choreographic structures towards collective choreographic processing that is speculative, un-governed and non-linear, grounded in the (un)stable history of artists creative and intimate relationships and their commitment to keep reaching for each other still, even when in doubt, and even when there seem to be no reason for it.
Therefore, Dolce far niente is their most radical work yet – rebelling against inherited and rationalised modes of making, doing and thinking dance and choreography in the contemporary art world. It re-imagines choreography as an open-grid of (un)stable relations and circumstances for things to happen, events to unfold, and for people to practice being together in a world where edges, rules and people’s roles are not so clear, or even framed, but multiple, complex and beyond rationalisation; yet intimacy, comfort, trust and pleasure-seeking prevail.
